A coordinated operation by police, army personnel, and local vigilantes in Kireka Biira led to the arrest of two suspects in possession of a dangerous weapon early on November 5, 2025.
At around 2:00 a.m., patrollers apprehended 22-year-old Lumu Jovan near Oilcom Petrol Station after he was found carrying a brand-new sharp panga.
During interrogation, Lumu revealed that he and two others had been transported from Nansana to Kireka Biira by motorcycle rider Mawanda Nicholas Kasozi.
The motorcycle, registration number UMA201DQ, had a flat tire, prompting Mawanda to leave the scene temporarily for repairs.
Patrol teams tracked him down and arrested both Mawanda and the motorcycle, which is now in police custody along with the panga as exhibits.
Both suspects are being held at Bulenga Police Station and have been charged with possession of a dangerous weapon. Authorities confirmed that further interrogation is ongoing to identify additional members of the group.
Senior Superintendent of Police Patrick Onyango, the metropolitan police spokesperson, said the operation underscores the continued collaboration between security agencies and local communities in curbing crime.
